Obituary of Gilbert L. DeBrum

Gilbert DeBrum, age 82, of Oxford, beloved husband of Alda (Carvalho) DeBrum, passed away on Friday, February 20, 2015. Born on June 8, 1932 in Sao Miguel, Acores, Portugal and immigrated to the United States in 1966 with his wife and children. He worked in construction most of his life and in 1980 established DeBrum Construction in Bridgeport which he operated until his retirement in 2001. In his recent years, Gilbert enjoyed spending time with his family in his upstate NY summer home, making homemade wine, growing and canning vegetables from his garden, and playing the accordion and piano. Gilbert was always full of fun, known for his sense of humor, and loved to make everyone around him laugh. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend and will be missed by all who knew him. Preceded in death by his mother and father, Mariana Amaral DeBrum and Gilberto DeBrum and sister, Feleciana Neves, he is survived by his wife, Alda, siblings, Hermano, Leonilde Lima, Gilda Oliveira, Horacio, Domingos, and Maria Fatima Silvestri, his children, Lisetta Villada and her husband Jose, Lubelia DeBrum, Olga Fernandes and her husband Jose, Gilbert Jr. and his partner Melissa Jennings, and his grandchildren, Christine, Mark, Sandra, Juliana and Sierra. Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at 9:00 a.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull, and at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Fatima Church, 429 Huntington Rd., Bridgeport for a Mass of Christian Burial.
