Obituary of Dominick C. Mondi

It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our dear Dominick C. Mondi, aged 78, of Huntington, on January 30, 2015 after his long and valiant battle with cancer. He is the loving husband of Alice T. Simon Mondi for 54 years. In addition to his wife, Dominick is survived by his son, Jeffrey Mondi and his wife Lorrie of Shelton; his daughters, Allison Jelenik and her husband Mark of Oxford and Jeannette Birney and her husband Jon of Wallingford. He is the loving Poppy to seven cherished grandchildren, Julianne, Alexis, Veronika, Robert, Joshua, Mikayla and Morgan. He also leaves behind his sister Marilyn Gilliland of Brick, New Jersey; and his dear friend and business partner in VM Design, Joseph Vicinanza and his wife Gina. He is the beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews and devoted friend to many. Dominick was predeceased by his sister Joan Monchek of East Brunswick, New Jersey. Dominick was born in New Brunswick, New Jersey on November 25, 1936. He was a veteran of the US Atlantic Fleet Naval Air Force Airship Airborne Early Warning Squadron One, stationed in Lakehurst, NJ. He moved to Connecticut in 1961 for a managerial sales position. His career in CT encompassed many aspects of sales, real estate, insurance and building & remodeling. Dominick was also a past member of the Republican Town Committee. He qualified for and was awarded membership in the Mensa Society. Although Dominick and Alice loved to travel both nationally and internationally, he valued time spent with his family and friends. Dominick stated that he will always be grateful for the concern and care he received from all the loving staff at St. Vincent's Medical Center in Bridgeport, CT; especially those at the infusion and radiation departments. He is also thankful for the care he received over the past 25 years from his physician/oncologist, Seyed Aleali MD. Funeral services will take place on Friday, February 6, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. from the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull and at 11:00 a.m. in St. Lawrence Church, 505 Shelton Rd., Shelton, for a Mass of Christian Burial.
