Obituary of Deborah P. Simons

Deborah Powell Simons, 44, of Easton, loving wife of Samuel R.N. Simons, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at Connecticut Hospice, Branford, surrounded by her devoted family and dear friends. Born in Wilmington, Delaware on December 15, 1969, she was the daughter of Robert and Judith Lewis Powell of Hilton Head, SC. Deborah received her undergraduate degree from Gettysburg College and earned her Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Fairfield University, as well as advanced degrees in Substance Abuse and School Counseling. Deb was devoted to her “kids” working for the Town of Monroe, serving as a counselor at Masuk High School and the Real & Alternative Program. She loved and found peace in the ocean, boating and sailing. Fondly known to many as “Rescue Deb,” she loved all animals and would happily take many in to care for them and eventually find them good homes. Most important to Deb was her joy in being a loving wife and devoted mother. She loved her children and husband with all her heart and was a proud supporter of her children in all their sports and activities. Deb will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her. In addition to her loving husband, Sam, and her parents, Robert and Judith, survivors include four cherished and adored children, Alden, Caden, Noah and Eve, a brother, Robert Powell and his wife Nadine of Nova Scotia; father and mother-in-law, Brian and Beth Simons of Trumbull, brothers and sister-in-law, Keith Simons and his wife Amy of Monroe, Marybeth Simons of Bristol, VT and Molly Smith and her husband Reed of Monroe. She also leaves to cherish her memory several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and many dear friends. A Memorial Gathering celebrating Deborah’s life will take place on Saturday, June 14, 2014 from 2-6 p.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale-New Haven, 20 York St., New Haven, CT 06510, the Monroe Board of Education Alternative School Program, 375 Monroe Turnpike, Monroe, CT 06468 or the Easton Animal Shelter, 700 Morehouse Rd., Easton, CT 06612, www.connecticutshelters.org
