Dr. Salvatore M. Clarizio, PhD, 81, of Trumbull, beloved husband, father, grandfather, mentor and friend, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 1, 2017 at St. Vincent's Medical Center. He was the beloved husband of Agnes McGuire Clarizio. Born in Bridgeport in May 1936, he was a son of the late Michele and Clementine Bocchino Clarizio. Dr. Clarizio worked as a clinical psychologist for the State of CT Department of Mental Retardation, with many years of dedicated service before his retirement. A graduate of Fairfield Prep, he earned his B.A. from Catholic University, M.A. from George Washington University, and PhD from Walden University. In 2000, he was ordained a Deacon, serving faithfully at St. Theresa Church in Trumbull. He served in the prisons, hospital ministries, bereavement ministry and was the spiritual director for the Legion of Mary. He was an avid collector, jazz enthusiast and found great enjoyment whenever he was spending time with his family on Cape Cod.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years and his children, Joseph Clarizio (Peggy) of Wethersfield, Paul Clarizio (Carol) of Milford, Kathleen Hevenstone (Steve) of Dix Hills, NY, Salvatore Clarizio, Jr. (Barbara) of Ashville, NC, Keren Clarizio of New Haven and Teresa Avery (Steve) of Bedford, VA, his thirteen grandchildren, Victoria, Nicholas, Amber, Evan, Sophia, Nathan, Aaron, Anabella, Kyra, David, Aiyana, Paycen and Gavin, as well as nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. He was predeceased by his brother, Anthony V. Clarizio.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 7, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Theresa Church, 5301 Main St., Trumbull for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull. Friends may greet the family on Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in St. Theresa Church, Trumbull. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
